Outlets
The most common type of electrical outlet used in Thailand is the Type A and Type C outlets. Type A outlets have two flat parallel pins mainly used in North and Central America. Type C outlets have two round pins and is the most common type of outlet used in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Some outlets can accommodate both types. It is important to note that the shape and size of electrical outlets may vary in Thailand, and in some cases, you may require a plug adapter to fit your specific device. It’s a good idea to carry a few suitable adapters just in case.
Whenever I travel internationally, I pack a universal adapter that can be used for any outlet. Many adapters like the Universal Travel Adapter, TESSAN International Plug Adapter include USB A and C ports as well. This is useful for charging phones, headphones, speakers, power blocks etc.
Voltage
It is important to note that the electrical voltage in Thailand is 220 volts while North America has 110 volt outlets. This difference in voltage can cause damage to North American appliances if they are directly plugged into outlets in Thailand. You may want to bring to bring a voltage converters such as the Bestek Universal Travel Adapter to ensure the appliances work properly and are not damaged.
Dual Voltage Appliances
Also note that most voltage converters can’t handle high-power appliances like hair dryers, curling irons and irons. It is instead recommended that you travel with dual voltage appliances which work with both voltages without a converter. Dual voltage appliances are readily available on Amazon such as the Conair Travel Hair Dryer and the Tourmaline Dual Voltage Curling Iron. These appliances work at both 110V and 220V which make them great for domestic or international travel.
